Podcast marketing is a relatively new concept as podcasts themselves are relatively new as well. Let's let podcasts into two different types of categories. The general podcast is one that you establish a relationship with the consumer and a status of a subject matter expert. These podcasts can be marketed and also lead to premium podcast shows.
A premium podcast is one that a customer will pay for access to the show. There are many of these premium podcast shows that develop good cash flow for their respective companies.
Podcast marketing, as I said before, is relatively new and there are many strategies at play on the web today. Going back to the basics, your podcast show might need its own website and micro-site to help generate traffic into the podcast show. Also submitting your show to other podcast aggregators is very important as a strategy. Inviting other podcast show owners onto your show will also help to leverage your podcast show.
You show might also need a blog that will assist in driving traffic into your show. You can place your show notes and other links from your blog directly to your podcast, which will help you, get your podcasts listed on Google. Also make sure that your podcast is submitted to iTunes and other familiar podcast aggregators.
One concept of podcast marketing that is rarely performed is to invite potential or target clients onto your show. If you want to do business with a company and you can identify the key person in that company, you can invite them onto your show. Of course the topic of your show would be some area or problem area that your guests may have and you can discuss that. What happens is the guest will go back feeling like they are a bit of the rock star and tell everyone is going to be on your show. Once your podcast is up you can e-mail your guest the link and sit back and watch what happens next. The whole company will be listening to your podcast. Now remember, what is the purpose of your podcast? It's to build relationships and become a subject matter expert in your field. Do you think that you accomplish these goals by having a guest on your show? Again, success is no accident.
